Charles Leclerc Crashes Out in Dramatic Monza Accident

Charles Leclerc suffered a heavy crash at the Italian Grand Prix in Monza on Sunday, ending Ferrari’s hopes of a strong result at its home race. The Monegasque driver lost control of his Ferrari on the second lap at the high-speed Parabolica corner, causing the race to be stopped with a red flag.

Leclerc started the race from third on the grid and immediately found himself involved in an intense battle. He was fighting for position with McLaren’s Oscar Piastri when the rear of his Ferrari suddenly stepped out.

The car spun at high speed and slammed into the tyre barriers, causing significant damage to the Ferrari. Race control immediately deployed the red flag while marshals worked to repair the damaged barriers.

Leclerc Walks Away From the Crash

Despite the severity of the accident, there was some relief for Ferrari and the thousands of fans at Monza. Leclerc was able to climb out of the wrecked car without assistance and was subsequently taken for a medical examination.

He was declared fit following the initial checks, although further medical examinations were expected after he reported temporary vision problems following the impact.

Speaking after the incident, Leclerc suggested that a possible issue with the car’s power delivery may have contributed to the crash. Ferrari said the team would investigate the circumstances before drawing any conclusions.

Ferrari’s Home Race Turns Into Disappointment

The crash was a major blow for Ferrari, with Leclerc expected to challenge for a podium finish in front of the passionate Italian crowd.

The incident came after a tense opening lap between Leclerc and his Ferrari teammate Lewis Hamilton. The two drivers went wheel-to-wheel, with Hamilton forced onto the gravel and dropping several positions.

Leclerc’s race, however, ended just moments later, leaving Ferrari without one of its leading contenders at its home Grand Prix.

Antonelli Makes History

While Ferrari endured a nightmare at Monza, Mercedes enjoyed a spectacular day. Italian driver Kimi Antonelliproduced a remarkable comeback victory after starting from 19th on the grid.

Antonelli eventually won ahead of teammate George Russell, becoming the first Italian driver in decades to win the Italian Grand Prix at Monza.

For Leclerc, however, the weekend ended in frustration. A promising starting position turned into an early retirement, while Ferrari was once again left to wonder what might have been at its most important race of the season.

The crash may have ended Leclerc’s race, but thankfully the Ferrari driver walked away from one of the most dramatic moments of the 2026 Formula 1 season.
