Do you believe the allegations of theatrical abuse against Róbert Alföldi?

Last week, alongside Enikő Eszenyi, the name of Róbert Alföldi also emerged among the directors and theater leaders who have been the subject of serious criticism from several figures within the theater community. In addition to the allegations against Eszenyi, Alföldi has been accused of fostering an aggressive and toxic working environment. Actor Áron Molnár went as far as to claim that the actor director had “destroyed people’s lives.”

A recent development involving Ágnes Forsthoffer’s asset declaration also brought renewed attention to the issue, prompting broader discussions within cultural circles.

Until recently, such accusations were rarely associated with Alföldi. During the years of Fidesz governance, he was widely regarded as a prominent figure in Hungary’s opposition leaning theater scene. Many viewed him as a target of political pressure, particularly because he openly embraced his homosexuality. However, following the controversy surrounding Enikő Eszenyi, Alföldi’s name has also entered the public debate. While Áron Molnár was among the first to raise allegations against him, several other actors have since spoken out on the matter.
