Will More Politicians Be Arrested in the Corruption Scandal?

The Óbuda corruption scandal has now reached 32 suspects and more than HUF 2 billion (approximately €5 million) in alleged bribery payments. During the latest coordinated operation by prosecutors, a dozen additional individuals were detained, including at least one politician. Do you think more arrests are on the way, or will the case gradually fade from the spotlight?

As we reported on Thursday, the so called Óbuda corruption case has entered a new phase. The Central Investigative Prosecutor’s Office (KNYF) has identified 12 new suspects, bringing the total number of people implicated in the massive corruption investigation to 32.

As part of the ongoing probe, prosecutors carried out a large scale, coordinated operation on Tuesday. Searches and seizures were conducted at multiple locations, during which investigators confiscated tens of millions of forints in cash as well as valuable assets.

Several individuals were taken into custody and questioned, including politicians. According to the authorities, the total amount of alleged bribe money involved in the case exceeds HUF 2 billion.

The investigation remains ongoing, and the latest developments have raised questions about whether further arrests could follow in what has become one of Hungary’s most significant corruption cases in recent years.
