Euphoria at ETO Park: Győr footballers celebrate with the fans

ETO’s football team celebrated the fifth Hungarian top flight championship title in the club’s history in unforgettable fashion. The players and members of the coaching staff lifted the trophy high on a stage set up on the pitch at ETO Park. The moment filled the supporters with pride as well, who paid no attention to the critics.

On Saturday evening, what Győr fans had been waiting 13 years for finally became reality: ETO FC once again finished a season at the top of the NB I table. Nadir Benbuali’s goal in Kisvárda was literally worth gold, and massive celebrations had already begun on the pitch at Várkerti Stadium.

And there is certainly plenty to be proud of, as ETO dethroned Ferencváros, who had dominated Hungarian football for the past seven years. The Budapest side finished just one point behind the team from Győr, ending the season in second place. The wide smiles were therefore completely understandable, and even the harsh weather could not dampen the spirits of the city’s residents. Despite the rain and strong winds, the players lifted the championship trophy in front of their fans at ETO Park on Sunday afternoon.
