VIKTOR KIRÁLY’S WIFE HAD ENOUGH OF THE SINGER’S ALCOHOLISM: “DAYS OF CRYING BEFORE SHE LEFT ME…”

The popular singer spoke with raw honesty about his addiction. Viktor Király admitted that even as a young adult he felt something was wrong with him. In his free time, his path often led to the pub, and he struggled with alcohol dependency for two decades.
On the Creator TV channel, Viktor Király openly talked about his long years of struggle in Levente Lakatos’s podcast. The former winner of Megasztár realized already in his early twenties that he was dealing with a serious addiction.
Viktor Király lived as an alcoholic for 20 years
The downward spiral began during his university years, as the singer himself admitted he had issues with alcohol from a very young age.
“I was studying in acting school, and in the last years I started to realize that I handled alcohol completely differently than others. After class we would go down to the local pub with my classmates, and after a while I noticed that I was the one encouraging everyone to go and drink,” the singer recalled.
After winning the fourth season of Megasztár, he sank even deeper despite reaching a major milestone in his career. The sudden fame and negative criticism were difficult for him to handle, so he turned back to alcohol.
Viktor Király: “I was a functional alcoholic”
The singer responded to reports claiming that he couldn’t put down alcohol even during Megasztár and The Voice.
“During Megasztár and The Voice, I didn’t drink. I had enough strength that when something important was happening, I stopped for three to four months,” Király said. He continued:
“I was a functional alcoholic. I did my job very well, praised myself, and then came the drinking. The last five or six years were very tough. There were times I lost control, but it rarely affected my work.”
The singer fought his addiction behind closed doors, which he said was one of the hardest parts of his suffering. It also made quitting more difficult, as he was capable of drinking up to 30 beers a day.
His private life fell into crisis
Király’s wife, Anita Király Virág, could no longer watch her husband sink deeper, so she left him with their child.
“There were days of crying and fighting before she left me,” he recalled the painful memory.
They lived apart for a year and a half. During that time, Anita hoped the separation would be a strong enough wake up call for the singer to quit his harmful habit for good. However, that didn’t happen.
“This ‘tough love’ didn’t work for me. During that year and a half when she left, that’s when I went down the most and was at my worst,” the singer said.
With the help of professionals and the support of his partner, Viktor Király was eventually able to overcome his demons. He turned to sports and ultimately decided to end the vicious cycle for good. That was two years ago, and the father now believes that the small joys of everyday life give him the genuine happiness he had been searching for.
