The same question has been raised at the end of every season for years: will Balázs Dzsudzsák finally retire, or will he continue playing? The Hungarian national team record holder has repeatedly proven the doubters wrong, and it appears that retirement is not on the horizon just yet.
The 39 year old fan favorite has become one of the most iconic figures in Hungarian football. Having represented the national team 109 times, Dzsudzsák is the most capped player in the history of the Hungarian national team. He set the record in 2022 when he surpassed former goalkeeper Gábor Király, who earned 108 international appearances.
Over the course of his career, Dzsudzsák has scored 21 goals for Hungary, appeared at the UEFA European Championship, enjoyed successful spells abroad, and created countless memorable moments for fans. Many believed he would retire last year, but once again he demonstrated that he still has the energy and motivation to continue.
Recent reports suggest, however, that the end of his playing career may finally be approaching. Dzsudzsák has revealed that the upcoming season could be the last of his professional career, with plans to hang up his boots next year.
Although retirement seems closer than ever, the experienced midfielder remains highly motivated, meaning supporters will still have the chance to see him in action for at least one more season.
