The new parliamentary salary list is out: allowances range from gross 2.1 million to 6 million HUF

Hungary’s new National Assembly will hold its inaugural session on May 9 at 10 a.m. Although Péter Magyar and the Tisza government have promised significant cuts to benefits, under the current rules, members of parliament will begin their work with a gross base salary of 2.18 million HUF. Outgoing members will receive more than 1.3 billion HUF in total severance payments.

MP salaries are tied to three times the national average wage, with additional positions further increasing this amount

The prime minister’s salary is the same as the Speaker of the House (gross 5.9 million HUF), which can rise to over 8 million HUF when combined with the MP base salary

The Fidesz parliamentary group has shrunk from 116 to 44 members, resulting in a significant loss of state funding

A total of 1.35 billion HUF in severance pay will be distributed among the 144 outgoing MPs

According to the law, MPs’ remuneration is tied to three times the previous year’s national average wage. Accordingly, following the automatic increase in March 2026, the base salary has risen to a gross 2,182,488 HUF.
