Réka Rubint has appeared without a wig, after speaking publicly just weeks ago for the first time about her serious illness and the years long battle she has been fighting.
Only two weeks ago, Réka made a shocking confession: she has been battling a malignant tumor, a type of soft tissue sarcoma, for the past four years. She kept her condition so private that even her children knew nothing about it.
“At Christmas in 2025, I took a deep breath and told them honestly what was happening to me. Fortunately, they didn’t fall apart, and this reflected something I’ve always believed in: leading by example.
Although her husband, Norbert Schóbert, was devastated, Réka made a conscious effort to maintain her calm and her faith throughout.
“I told him he either had to stop living in fear, or one of us would have to move out. I slept in the living room at night, but he followed me,” she said with a laugh, adding that it was difficult for her husband to understand that his fear was not helping her healing process.
In the interview, Réka also spoke candidly about how many of her friends disappeared during her illness. “They didn’t even make a phone call. They didn’t ask how I was, even though they knew exactly what I was going through. Three or four couples stayed by our side, and they will likely remain in our lives forever.”
Despite everything, she says she feels genuinely well and looks to the future with optimism.
“I am happy. My life feels more complete than ever before. I was given an opportunity to change my life, and I did. I refused to be pulled under by the vortex that is fear. I feel that God sees that I can slowly be set back on my path, healthy again.”
