Citing renewal and rebranding, Tények is being shut down. The TV2 news program was not only a mouthpiece of Fidesz propaganda, but also an effective weapon in Rogán’s black propaganda campaigns. Tények fired the opening shots, for example, in the smear campaigns about Gábor Vona allegedly being gay and in the attacks aimed at discrediting high school girls critical of the regime. As a farewell, we have gathered the program’s most blatant cases of fabricated reporting.

After Viktor Orbán’s downfall, the deep state built by Fidesz is rapidly falling apart. Entrepreneurs, weeping and submissive, are offering up the work of their lifetimes to the state; downsizing has begun at the foundations closely tied to the outgoing government; and under slogans such as “structural transformation,” “model change,” and “rebranding in broadcasting services,” the dismantling of the flagship of the Fidesz propaganda machine has begun. Following the election, Szalai Vivien, the news director of TV2 partly owned by Lőrinc Mészáros was dismissed just days later, and on Thursday the channel’s CEO, Miklós Vaszily, announced that the news program Tények would be discontinued. This pro-Fidesz news broadcast delivered some of the dirtiest black propaganda campaigns of the past decade into hundreds of thousands of living rooms, falsely branding opposition politicians as gay, drug users, or wife beaters, and it was also this program that ran the headline: “Soros would have killed his own mother.”
