Anna Albek is a key member of the Hungarian women’s national handball team.

Although FTC’s women’s handball team did not make it to the Women’s Champions League Final Four, two Hungarian players could still celebrate happily in Metz. One of them, Anna Albek, is playing her first season with the French star club, and she has visibly improved since Emmanuel Mayonnade took over the professional work. The 24 year old Hungarian national team right back told 24.hu that she feels great at the club, always tries to get the maximum out of herself in all circumstances, and is very grateful to Metz for believing in her and giving her the opportunity. What would she prescribe for every handball player? And what are her plans when her contract expires? We also discussed these topics.

Why didn’t you get a chance on Saturday in the second leg of the Champions League quarterfinal against FTC, even though you were one of the best in the first match?

I can’t really provide a specific explanation; it was the coach’s decision, and I respect it. There are matches where our coach, Emmanuel Mayonnade, doesn’t like to make too many changes. Obviously, I was sad because I would have liked to help the team on the court, but this time it wasn’t possible. Nevertheless, I’m very happy about the victory.

How do you evaluate your performance and your game this season? It seems like you’ve renewed yourself, improved a lot, you’re better in defense and more confident in attack.

The hard work we put in before the season is starting to show. Yes, I also feel that I’ve made progress in certain areas, and I’m very happy about that it motivates me. At the same time, I don’t think I’ll ever be fully satisfied with my performance. There is always room for improvement, and I want to make even greater use of my role in the tactical aspects of the game. Manu builds everything up very well; everyone knows what their role is at any given moment. We have a very strong structure and clear ideas, and everyone has to fit into that. I try to get the maximum out of this, continue improving, and advance as much as possible in my playing ability.
